If the reading stops
Refunds and cancellation
This page applies to professional readings and written papers. We do not sell goods by post, we do not run classes with a class size, and we do not take deposits for products. If a sentence below does not match the engagement on your estimate, the estimate prevails.
When a full refund of the professional fee is given
- You cancel in writing before we have opened the bundle (the first paper review has not started).
- We decline the file after the first look because we cannot lawfully inspect the register or because standing is absent, and no briefing has been issued.
- We cancel a conference from our side and you do not want a new date or a papers-only finish.
The professional fee in those cases is returned by the same method it was paid, usually within ten working days of the decision. Disbursements already paid to a registrar for an extract are not ours to refund; the extract, if produced, is sent to you.
When a partial refund is given
If you cancel after the first paper review has started but before the briefing is issued, we invoice the time already spent against the estimate and refund the unused balance of the professional fee. There is no “restocking” figure. Time is recorded in the file note.
If a conference is missed without notice (a no-show) and papers-only work can still finish the briefing, we keep the fee for the reading and do not charge a second conference. If the conference was the only remaining step you wanted and you do not reschedule, we refund the unused conference portion stated on the estimate, if one was separated.
What is not refundable
- Disbursements already paid to a registry, a search agent, a courier, or an off-site retrieval office
- Work already issued: a briefing, a marked-up draft, a chronology, or a hearing bundle that has left the rooms
- An estimate surcharge for a printed date where we emptied a desk and the date then moved because of a choice on your side
- A Title and Search Briefing that concludes the packet is clean; a short clean briefing is still the work you bought
Timeframe for asking
Ask for a refund in writing to hello@registrycanvasgrid.digital within fourteen days of the event you rely on (cancellation, our refusal, or receipt of a briefing you believe is not the engagement). Older files are still discussed; the invoices may already be closed.
Process and method
Write, name the file, and say whether you want the work stopped or only a date moved. We reply within three working days. Approved refunds of professional fees go back by the original payment method where the bank still allows it, otherwise by electronic transfer to an Australian account you nominate. Processing by our bank is usually complete within ten working days after we approve.
Cancellation and rescheduling of a conference
Give two working days’ notice to move a conference without a fee. A first reschedule is free. A second is billed $180 plus GST unless the move is caused by a registrar’s delay in producing a volume. Same-day cancellation is treated as a no-show for the conference portion.
Work already started
Opening a bundle, recalling an off-site folio, or drafting submissions is work. Stopping it mid-stream does not unwind the registrar’s queue. We will still send you whatever extract has arrived, because it was obtained on your standing.
Contested files and printed dates
If a hearing date is printed and we have begun the bundle, cancellation is partial at most. The chronology already written is issued so you or counsel can use it. We do not refund a stage that has been delivered merely because the objector later withdraws.
